An Astro-Deco Speakeasy in Encinitas

Anigma is a speakeasy in Encinitas built on a single idea we call astro-deco, where art deco geometry meets astrological whimsy, with a touch of alchemy. Our scope was the full interior, from the checkered floors and velvet curtains to the gilded details that give the room its historic, slightly theatrical mood. The custom pieces were designed by our studio and produced through our in-house fabrication, including the bar shelving, banquettes, a mirrored wall feature wall, and the bronze astrolabe that creates a unique entry experience. Getting in is part of the design: a reservation earns you a riddle, the riddle gives you a code, and the code works the astrolabe hidden inside a consignment storefront, The result is a room that rewards curiosity and holds its atmosphere from the door to the last smoked drink.
