Beachside Build Out - Part 1
We’re excited to share a behind-the-schenes look at one of our latest hospitality design projects, currently under
Designing a Restaurant that Feels
like Home
From the earliest concept meetings, the vision was clear - we were going to design a restaurant that feels both elevated yet familiar. While meeting the functional requirements for a commercial hospitality space, this design intentionally layers in residential-inspired details that evoke comfort and ease. The result is a design that blends the elegance of Mediterranean aesthetic with the intimacy of a thoughtfully designed home.
Designing with Nature in Mind
At Tecture Studio, we push to prioritize authentic, natural materials that celebrate texture and craftsmanship. Woven pendant lighting, thatch ceilings, and hand-troweled plaster walls infuse warmth and depth into the interior. Integrated greenery adds vibrancy and movement, enhancing the connection between the restaurant and its coastal surroundings. This palette of natural tones and textures creates a timeless design language, grounding the project in a coastal Mediterranean identity that feels both sophisticated and approachabe.
Crafting the Guest Experience
The interior architecture and layout are designed to shape the guest journey. Curved build-in seating offers organic intimate moments for small groups, while expansive dining zones encourage community and connection. By blurring the line between indoor and outdoor dining, the space evolved throughout the day. Sunlight and shadows animate the interiors, enriching the dining experience and deepening the guest connection.
From Render to Reality
As part of the design process, we developed a series of 3D renderings to visualize the finished interior. These renderings guided every decision, ensuring that the architecture, interior design, and custom furniture selections work in harmony. Now that the construction is underway, it’s exciting to watch these concepts take shape in real time.
This Mediterranean costal-inspired restaurant located just steps from the water, blends timeless interior architecture with the relaxed charm of a beachside retreat. What’s Next
This project has been a highly collaborative design & build project, and as a San Diego design studio that specializes in hospitality and restaurant design, this project has been a labor of love. We can’t wait to share the completed project soon, but for now, we’re thrilled to see this project evolve, reflecting Tecture Studio’s commitment to thoughtful hospitality design, natural materials, and creating meaningful guest experiences through interior design and architecture. Part 2 of this blog series will showcase the finished space - where every handcrafted detail, material selectin and custom element come together to bring this coastal gem to life. Stay tuned!
FAQ
-
It’s a feeling more than a formula. Warm, natural materials, soft-sun washed tones, and a relaxed connection to the outdoors. Textures like hand-troweled plaster, natural woods, woven fixtures, and greenery evoke the coastline and a sense of ease. Done well, it reads as timeless and approachable rather than themed.
-
That balance is the heart of the work. We layer in residential-inspired details, soft materiality, comfortable seating, intimate corners, while meeting the realities of a commercial space like durability, health and safety codes, service flow, and seating capacity to name a few. The goal is a room that feels like a home you’d never have to clean, built to take the wear of a busy service.
-
The trick is specifying them for the setting. Near the water there’s salt air and moisture to plan for, and in a restaurant there’s constant use. We select and detail materials with that in mind, sealing and finishing where it matters and placing the most delicate touches where they’ll be appreciated rather than abused. Natural materials can wear beautifully when they’re chosen for how the space actually gets used.
-
It’s one of the most useful parts of the process. Renderings let everyone see the finished interior early, test materials and layouts, and make confident decisions before construction. Coupled with physical material samples, it’s far easier and cheaper to move a wall or swap a finish in a render and provide a sample of the material, than it is to change it on site. This is one of the ways we assure that the built space matches the intent.

Not at all. This one happens to be, but we design across styles and hospitality types; from moody and intimate to bright and airy. We start from the brand, the location, and the experience you want to create, then build the design language around that.
